Sixteen years after the release of her breakthrough debut album Tidal, Fiona Apple is back on tour for her fourth studio album The Idler Wheel is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do, more commonly known as simply The Idler Wheel…, set for release on June 19th.
She’s coming to the Warner Theatre on Tuesday, June 26th, and tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am, but we have a pair of tickets for one lucky winner to win before they even go on sale.
The defiant, piano-playing chanteuse was catapulted to fame in the late ’90s with the release of the Grammy-winning “Criminal,” the most successful single from Tidal. When the album was released in 1996, Apple was a mere 19 years old, but the provocatively sexual, confessional album earned her critical acclaim for its naughty, brooding, sophisticated work.
All grown up now, Apple kicked off the tour with a couple of performances at this year’s SXSW, including debuting a few new songs from Idler Wheel.
If you missed her last month at Sixth and I, now is your chance to redeem yourself (to the one you’ve sinned against?). In addition to the Warner show, which is sure to sell out, Ms. Apple will be making an appearance at the Lyric Opera House in Baltimore on June 20th, the week before she hits DC.
For a chance to win tickets, tell us in the comments below, your favorite song about sex.
In the name of all that was good in the ’90s, I’m calling Marcy Playground’s “Sex and Candy.”
The winner will be chosen Friday, April 20th, at 9am so that you’ll know that you won’t have to buy tickets. While you’re waiting for them to go on sale this Friday at 10am, in the meantime, enjoy the cameo from Zach Galifianakis in the video for “Not About Love” from Fiona Apple’s last album, 2005’s Extraordinary Machine.
