Post-firing furnaces, singer/songwriter Eleanor Friedberger is coming solo to U Street Music Hall this Thursday evening and we’ve got a pair of tickets for you to attend her solo outing.
Since 2000, Eleanor Friedberger and her brother Matthew were known as the primary members of Fiery Furnaces. Although she’s been solo since a hiatus was called in 2011, Friedberger’s songwriting hasn’t slowed since the release of Last Summer in 2011 and the new Personal Record earlier this month. Drawing from aspects of the Furnaces, Friedberger makes jangly pop with straight-arrow arrangements and plenty of choruses.
Not to come alone, post-Here We Go Magic keyboardist Kristina Lieberson’s project TEEN will provide support.
So, how can you get your hands on such a deal? It’s simple! In the comments below, tell us your favorite artist who went solo after an extended stint with a group.
Since I’m a big fan of desolate Icelandic music, I’m going to have to go with Kria Brekkan, who began as the lead singer of the organic-electronica group müm.
We’ll chose one winner for the pair of tickets at noon on Wednesday, June 26. Tickets are still available.
