DeVotchKa stop by 9:30 Club Tuesday (3/22) on their way back to the Northeast after playing SXSW, and we have a chance for you to win a pair of tickets. Their new LP 100 Lovers was just released on March 1st via Anti- Records.
When describing DeVotchKa’s music, people often clumsily combine genres, as the multi-instrumentalist quartet’s unique romantic style is hard to define. Jeanie Schroder, who sings and plays the sousaphone and upright bass, has said, “We usually just tell people that we’re a big mixture of a whole bunch of things, that it’s this eclectic mix of different styles. The ‘gypsy-folk-punk’ thing we get a lot, and, well, that sounds OK to me!”
Their quirky, cross-culture, unclassifiable sound was honored in 2007, when the Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack was nominated for a Grammy. DeVotchKa contributed the majority of the songs on the album.
DeVotchKa means “girl” in Russian. To win the tickets, simply answer in the comments below, what’s your favorite jam that has Girl in the title?
The winner will be chosen Monday (3/21) at noon.
