We already gave away tickets to see the legendary Bob Dylan, but… SURPRISE!… We got our grubby little hands on some more. The lineup now includes openers Drive By Truckers in addition to Leon Russell. All of the previous entries will still be considered to win another pair of lawn tickets, and the deadline for entry is now Friday (8/12) at noon.—Ed.
Bob Dylan tickets go on sale Friday (at 10am), but one of you will already have a pair of lawn tickets to the August 16th show at Merriweather Post Pavilion in your name on Friday because we’re giving them away!
If you read TVD, you surely can already appreciate being given the opportunity to see this living legend, whose accomplishments include winning eleven Grammys and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but just in case, 5min.com has a nice little (five-minute) recap of the life of the folk-rock-poet-political-activist.
Last October, Dylan released both The Bootleg Series Vol. 9 – The Witmark Demos: 1962–1964 and The Original Mono Recordings:
“The Witmark Demos features 47 Bob Dylan songs recorded by the artist accompanied only by his acoustic guitar, harmonica and occasionally piano. . . All of these songs were written – and their subsequent demos recorded – before Bob Dylan turned 24 years old. Among the many gems are 15 Bob Dylan songs that were recorded by the artist only for these sessions, and which have never been officially released to the public until now.”
“The Original Mono Recordings is comprised of Bob Dylan’s first eight long-playing albums, painstakingly reproduced from their first generation monaural mixes as the artist intended them to be heard: one channel of powerful sound, both direct and immediate. While stereo recordings had been available as early as the mid-1950s, mono was still the predominant – and often preferred – mode of recording and mixing by the top artists of the 1960s.”
Bob Dylan just turned 70 last month. In his exceptional and prolific career, he’s inspired countless musicians and had at least one band name themselves after one of his albums (Blonde on Blonde from the late ’60s, also a Nada Surf song).
We’re going to make this easy on you. To enter to win the tickets, tell us your favorite Bob Dylan collaboration, cover, or inspiration. There are so many.
Besides Blonde on Blonde, both the band and the song, I have to call the GNR version of “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.” You understand.
The winner will be chosen on Friday (6/24) (8/12) at noon.
