TVD Ticket Giveaway: Belle and Sebastian
with Yo La Tengo at Merriweather Post Pavilion, 7/12

The sweetened indie pop of Belle and Sebastian is headed to the Merriweather Post Pavilion on July 12. We happen to have a pair of lawn tickets to give away with the super-easy requirement of answering only one question.

Belle and Sebastian made their debut in 1996 when Stuart Murdoch and Stuart David got together and released the album Tigermilk on their college’s record label, Electric Honey. Shortly after, the band expanded in members and released If You’re Feeling Sinister, an album many critics consider to be one of the most important releases of the 1990s.

Their career has had its peaks of success and praise outside of Sinister, including 1998’s The Boy with the Arab Strap and 2003’s Dear Catastrophe Waitress, the latter of which featured the hyper-poppy single “I’m a Cuckoo.”

Now backed by an eight-album catalog, Belle and Sebastian are touring before releasing a collection of B-sides called The Third Eye Centre in August.

They are joined at Merriweather by special guests Yo La Tengo, who have earned a cult following making experimental rock for almost 30 years now. The Hoboken, New Jersey-based band bid adieu to famed hometown rock venue Maxwell’s last month with two 45-minute sets, first as their alter-ego alias Condo Fucks and then as themselves. They’re touring in support of their thirteenth full-length Fade, which was released in January of this year.

So how can you get your hands on some tickets? It’s easy! In the comments below, tell us your favorite record of the late ’90s. I like Boards of Canada’s obsession with detuned synths and textural white noise, so I’m going with Music Has the Right to Children.

The winner will be chosen at noon on Thursday, July 11. Tickets are still available.
