Tomorrow, December 16th, The Deadmen will play their down-home hearts out on the DC9 stage for a worthy cause.
The show will benefit Toys for Tots, so concert-goers are encouraged to bring a toy or two for a tiny tot in need (watch Justin Jones and Josh Read serenade their own tots with the first track off their self-titled EP below).
DC-based bandmates Josh Hoben, Justin Jones, and Josh Read seem to have hit on the ideal music-making formula. Each are accomplished singer-songwriters in their own right, but coming together for The Deadmen triggers a sense of refreshing collaboration. The result: smooth, authentic Americana.
Somehow out of distinct writing styles and fully-realized careers, Hoben, Jones, and Read blend their tones for a raw power-acoustic set with a heart of gold. Says Hoben, “It’s kind of fun and challenging to find things to add to their songs that fit with them as songwriters and The Deadmen as a group.” “The Deadmen” EP dropped this past March with the promise of a full album next year.
Whether it’s because their music conjures images of porches and bonfires or because they’re District residents, The Deadmen’s work feels warmly familiar. In any case, we’re certainly glad to have them back.
Carrie Ashley Hill and Brandon Minow will open the set. Tickets are $12. Doors open at 8:30. Don’t forget to bring a toy for a tot!
