Justin Jones will be bringing his sorrowful aching country-rock to IOTA at 9pm on Friday, March 18th. Tickets are first come, first served.
You can listen to a few tracks from The Little Fox EP, Justin Jones’ first record released by 9:30 Records, 9:30 Club owner Seth Hurwitz’s new label. After self-releasing …and I am the song of drunkards in 2008 and Love Verses Heroin in 2006, it seems Justin was ready to return to his solo routine. This downhearted EP pulls a few different heart strings and delivers that dejected longing I’ve enjoyed from the others.
Some people love to wallow. Fortunately, I am one of those, and opportunely, Justin writes songs like “The Gutter.”
I found a memory in the gutter, put it in my belly
It fed me for weeks, then it spit me back out
Back into the gutter where I was found
Soul-less and weary
I was soakin’ and freezin’, mind beyond reason
Snow in my boots, trash in my pockets
Oh receipts for cigarettes that had long turned to ash
I had no understandin’ of the time that had passed
CHORUS:
When you go
I will follow
And when you leave,
I’ll be in tow
For there’s nothing for me
In the city of swine
They’re pushing for the end of time
Additional draw: Local legend Laura Tsagarris will be opening.
This show is definitely worth getting there before 9 and laying down 12 dollars. See you all there.
