TVD Live: Lifehouse at Nationals Park, 9/4

L.A.-based band Lifehouse returned to the District on Saturday, only this time to a most peculiar venue: Nationals Park, home of the Washington Nationals baseball team. Lead guitarist Ben Carey began the night’s events with a Jimi Hendrix rendition of the National Anthem prior to the first pitch—thrown by drummer, Rick Woolstenhulme. The full band united on stage in centerfield to conclude the evening with a free post-game concert.

Feeding off of the excitement of a bottom of the 9th come-from-behind win, Lifehouse opened their set with a crowd pumping cover of “Hello There” by Cheap Trick. With customized Nationals jerseys on, the alternative rock quartet transitioned into more familiar tunes, including their break out single, “Hanging By A Moment.”

The hour-long post-game event featured popular songs from the band’s five studio releases, such as “All In,” “You and Me,” and “Halfway Gone.” While the ladies swooned to their hits, Lifehouse made an effort to appease the atypical crowd with “Beast of Burden” by The Rolling Stones. “I see we got some [Rolling] Stones fans here,” smiled lead singer, Jason Wade. The night concluded with the earnest croons of Wade echoing throughout stadium to “Everything,” a slow, but powerful track off of Smoke & Mirrors.
