TVD’s Eleven Weeks
of Vinyl Giveaways!
Week 3…

It’s Tuesday, and that means we have another chance for you to win 12″ of joy as we count down to April 16, 2011—Record Store Day.

This week, MillionYoung’s brand-spanking new LP Replicants is up for grabs. Replicants, MillionYoung’s first full-length, was released digitally in January and is available on CD and LP from Old Flame Records as of today.

I remember that when I first heard chillwave artist MillionYoung, who is known in his everyday Floridian life as Mike Diaz, I proclaimed him “the next Neon Indian, only better.” And go figure, MillionYoung actually covers Neon Indian’s “Local Joke.” More recently though, MillionYoung brought his dreamy, bubbly, electronica to Daytrotter and is kicking off his tour tonight at NYC’s Mercury Lounge.

I have to admit, relatively obscure subgenres of music make me laugh. Try explaining to the uninitiated what chillwave or dubstep means. Recently, I even drew a hierarchical tree to figure out what cumbahcore is. (As far as I can tell, some kind of lovechild of Colombian cumbia, reggaeton, and dubstep, and itself a subgenre of moombahton. Don’t ask me to explain what moombahton is.)

To win the LP, simply give me a succinct explanation of a current or imaginary music subgenre in the comments below. Be creative; the best definition I’ve seen online of dubstep has been “sounds like Transformers having sex.” Teach me something!

The contest will end in one week, on Tues 2/22. Winners must reside in the continental US or Canada.
