Loverboy Tour featuring Brett Dennen w/ Bobby Long, Sat 5/21
Folk rocker Brett Dennen just released his fourth studio album Loverboy on April 12th via Dualtone Records:
“In many ways this is my first album. On my previous albums I said what I needed to say. I evoked every different mood and sentiment and emotion. Now I don’t really have anything to prove. I’ve been the new kid on the block and now that phase is over. I get to start all over again, relax, and refocus. And what I’m focused on is having fun. . . I want people to put on Loverboy and feel good. I want to make people dance!”
He sure inspired some fun and some dancing on his recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, performing “Sydney I’ll Come Running” from the new album:

Raphael Saadiq w/ Quadron, Wed 5/25
Soul and R&B maestro Raphael Saadiq just released his newest album Stone Rollin’ in March, and it’s available for streaming from NPR, who call it
“…a solid follow-up to his Grammy-winning 2008 album, The Way I See It. . . Stone Rollin‘ does what you hope for but don’t always get in an album, taking you through a full cycle of moods and grooves. The languid swagger of ‘Good Man’ seduces the listener with its dreamy orchestration, while the uptempo anthem ‘Radio’ practically grabs you by the lapels and drags you to the dance floor — two wildly different musical directions, both executed beautifully.”
Hells yeah, try not grooving to “Radio.”
Friendly Fires w/ Wise Blood, Thurs 5/26
English dance punk kings Friendly Fires are releasing their newest album Pala on May 24th, just two days before they hit up 9:30 Club. Recently the Guardian called on aging ravers to identify themselves in Friendly Fire’s new video for “Live Those Days Tonight” from the new album:
“Friendly Fires have been combing YouTube for old rave footage – lots of people dancing wildly while biting their own cheeks and managing to rotate their eyeballs back into their skull. Live Those Days Tonight (Back to ’89 Rave Montage) is a collage of their favourite clips and is both touching, hilarious and a little scary. So consider this a shout out to all the ageing ravers out there – are you dancing in this video? Is that you looking unfit to be driving the motor vehicle you’re sat in? And if so, how are you still alive? Do tell us, but, er, probably don’t tell your boss.”
Are any of you in this vid?
