It’s July (how is summer passing by so quickly?), the Friday before a three-day holiday weekend, and this is the last thing I have to do before going on vacation for a week. Wild Beasts, Sat 7/16
Wild Beasts just released their third full-length Smother in May, via indie rock powerhouse Domino Records. BBC Music has already declared that “Smother might well prove to be the album of 2011,” and their last release, 2009’s Two Dancers was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize in the UK. Wild Beasts are doing some “pond jumping,” as DC’s 9:30 Club show is the last one they play before returning home to Europe for a few weeks of touring before heading back to North America in September.

And then the very next show at the club continues the British indie rock takeover because Gomez will be stopping by, on tour for their newest release Whatever’s on Your Mind. I’ve been a fan ever since “Girlshapedlovedrug” from their 2006 release How We Operate gave me hope that someone out there could love me despite my quick temper. “She’s a Wicked Girl/ Worst in all the world/ A mystery lies in her.”
Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Tues 7/19
Does she really even need an introduction?
