Greetings from Music City, USA! Spring is in the air and South by South West is just around the corner so Nashville is jumping with news.
First off, Tristen played a set over at Grimey’s for Beer:30 last Saturday and, as usual, she & The Ringers were on fire. If you haven’t gotten her album Charlatans at the Garden Gate yet you are seriously missing out. You should head to your local record shop and pick one up as soon as possible, you won’t be disappointed. Make sure you also check her video for Baby Drugs at Rolling Stone.
Did you make it to any of Nashville’s Dead FREAKIN’ WEEKEND shows? I went to The End on Saturday night for D.Watusi, Pujol, Heavy Cream and San Fran’s Ty Segall. (I missed slammers but I’ve heard nothing but great things… even something about a baby’s in utero first kicks during another Slammers Freakin’ Weekend set!) I haven’t seen The End so crammed full of people in years and for good reason. I’m sure I’m not the only one that can’t resist an opportunity to so Daniel Pujol. The word is out and Pujol is winning.
This was my first opportunity to see D.Watusi and it was everything I wanted it to be. I’m loving these songs so much and those kids really know how to bring it. Nashville’s Dead has some D.Watusi for you to check out.
Speaking of Pujol, he’s all over the place, and on his way to SXSW with tons of other Nashvillians. He stopped by the Cream office and did a Conference Call session on a ladder! Good times.
Who else headed to SXSW? Half of Nashville is, of course. If you’re going you’ll have the opportunity to see showcases sponsored by some of Nashville’s favorite organizations such as United Record Pressing, Next Big Nashville, and Third Man Records with their Rolling Record Store.
The Vinyl District will also be at SXSW at The Clive Bar on Friday night!
Have you heard about William Tyler‘s newest record Behold The Spirit? It came out last year and it’s pretty great. Much like his previous release under the name The Paper Hats, Deseret Canyon, it is enchantingly beautiful. The video below has been circulating for a while now and just this week he compiled Nashville’s Dead’s Dead Air mixtape. His episode is called Other Tounges and features some of Williams favorite foreign language tracks. Also make sure you check out the interview William did with Culture Bully.
Have a great weekend!
