Incredible to believe that Record Store Day is a mere five days away! Hope you have some cash stashed away for your local vinyl emporium. But before you make that crucial decision on what shop you are going to hit first, the good people of Jackpot Records are ready to sway to you one of their two stores.
According to the press release they sent out late last week, they’ve got some impressive guests lined up for the day, including Mudhoney’s Steve Turner who will be spinning 7″s starting at 10am, a live instore performance from rockers Red Fang, and then a Bollywood heavy set from the great DJ Anjali. All of that is happening at their spacious downtown location, whereas their Hawthorne shop will have a visit from a “vinyl clairvoyant” who will be determining what free record you’ll be taking home. Hello everyone! A big day for us is coming around the bend and we wanted to let you know what we’re going to do about it!
Saturday, April 16 is the juggernaut known as Record Store Day. It’s the one day a year the music biz has set aside to celebrate independent music retail and it’s contributions to music and the community.
Artists and labels get in the ring by offering one-time-only pressings of specially designed releases that are ONLY available in indie music shops and ONLY in very limited quantities. This year there are loads of unique pieces from the likes of The White Stripes, Black Angels, Bob Dylan. Gorillaz and lots more. Keep in mind, these pieces are extremely limited and the full list may not represent what we will have in stock. You just have to come down and see what we’ve got.
To get the day hyped and sugared, the Voodoo Doughnuts mobile donut van will be parked outside of our DOWNTOWN location offering up their world famous bizarre/delicious inventions for purchase. And to keep things lively and moving inside, we’ll be having some top shelf music throughout the day.
At our DOWNTOWN location, start your morning with Mudhoney’s Steve Turner aka “DJ Dollar Bin” at 10 am. Steve will be doing a DJ set from the moment we open of all 7” singles.. I think all of our days would be a lot more productive if we had Steve to get us going every morning.
Stick around until 2PM for a rollicking set from Portland metal/punk/whatever heroes RED FANG. They’ll be clearing the dance floor just as fast as they fill it.
Taking us into the evening at 4PM, the sublime DJ Anjali will be spinning deep cuts of bhangra, Bollywood and whatever else she sees fit.
Meanwhile, at our Hawthorne location, we are enlisting the services of our Vinyl Clairvoyant who will be psychically deducing what FREE record you will be going home with starting at noon!
Throughout the day, BOTH of our locations, in addition to having all the exclusive RSD releases, will have tons of $1 LP’s and CD’s, bags and totes full of giveaways, beverages and lots of other surprises.
If you haven’t been in for awhile or you’re here everyday, put either of our locations on your route for the 16th. It is going to be a blast.
