You’re forgiven if you don’t know what it takes to make it these days. Hell, we can’t even come to a consensus here in the TVD office.
My honest opinion is that I miss the old goal posts. (Right, I said it.) Not in the sense of needing to be SIGNED to consider you or your band this close to the brass ring—but having been vetted by some process of weeding out the junk and making room for the junk-free. The internet may be empowering and bring the horses to your water, but do you have that magic stuff to turn that water into, well…Kool-Aid? Will we come back to drink it? And what does it take?
We’ll be asking these questions aloud in essence in our brand new TVD Spotlight feature—conceived as a week long “First Date” but with an act from any genre we’re pegging for big things.
We’re inaugurating our brand new monthly feature with Miami’s Fancy Me Yet.

Fancy Me Yet: How it came to be…
We are an indie/rock band from Miami, Florida trying to spread our music outside of the panhandle of America. This band has a bit of story to it, stories that have made our music what it is today.
Natasha: It all began when I decided to leave my ties with EMI Latin to pursue what was close to my heart. I didn’t want to become a factory made artist. The reason I make music is because I have a passion for it. It is my form of expression and without that freedom it’s not music to me. It would be karaoke—and karaoke is only fun when you’re drunk with friends.
I continued pursuing my music and then met Alex. We shared the same musical interests and the same love for the art. As soon as we started writing it was instant musical chemistry and we knew we had to pursue our music together…kinda like Batman and Robin.
Alex: When we started back in 2008, I really admired that Natasha wanted to leave what she was doing and pursue what she wanted musically. I was going through the motions in college and felt that the music we were making had so much potential. So, I left college behind me. I remember someone told me that you can’t get to home base if your foot is still on third. Now, when I listen to these songs on the EP, I’m so proud I took that leap just as Natasha did.
Fancy Me Yet | Down Like Downtown
We went through our rocky roads and had a few speed bumps along the way, which we still have, but we are thankful for that. We are thankful for everyone that thinks we can’t do it. Thankful for those holes in the walls that helped us grow our tough skin and thankful for for everyone that still believes and keeps fueling “Fancy Me Yet.”
