One of my favorite Nirvana interviews is from waaaaay back before the band detonated, shattering the mainstream music industry with their now legendary rock explosion. In it, a 21 year old Dave Grohl offers some advice that I still follow and prescribe to this day. “Hustle on the street… learn to play cards. Peddle the ass that God gave you.”

And that’s what I’m doing with today’s post, folks. I have a pretty fine ass, and I am going to peddle it under the umbrella of the fine rock outfit that I front, The Obvious. If you’re a saint with the heart of a sinner, The Obvious has got your salvation right here. We’ve been on the streets as Dave advised, pushing our signature brand of damned, dirty, gravel-slinging, sing-along Rock through our absolutely frothing live show–a sight that burns with the energy of a tent-revival healing.

They Were Such A Serious Band: Nirvana Gives Good Advice

Now it’s not all judgment day with us. Yeah, we’ve got demons, but we’ve come to love them and, actually we think they’re pretty funny! What you need to know is that we have an impeccable aesthetic, an inexhaustable well of passion, and we know how to artfully rip off the right 70’s punk and 90’s alternative influences, all tied together in a unconventionally pretty package by our own beautifully blurry signature sound.

And once you see us play? Baby you’ll be smitten, calling us all hours of the night, cutting off locks of our hair when we’re busy signing autographs, begging us to come away with you, promising us peace and plenty forever and ever. Don’t worry, that’s a normal reaction.

Oh, and as if I haven’t ridden his coattails enough, I’d like to mention that the honorable Pete Steinkopf, the one and only gifted and sanguine guitarist of The Bouncing Souls has said that, ahem, : “Angie has a Devil inside. The Obvious are exactly what rock and roll needs at this moment, and this band is absolutely on FIRE”.

The Pete has recorded not only our debut EP, Bringing Wreck, but our newest offering, which we are just wrapping up with him tentatively titled “One Way Ticket To Newark” (Because I got so drunk early in the afternoon while recording vocals one day, he asked, “We’re not going to find you at the train station with like, a one way ticket to Newark after I let you out of here, right?).

Now that we’re just getting out of the studio, we’re ready to unleash our pent up energy, sexual frustration, bloodlust, wanderlust, disgust, unquestioning trust, and twisted sense of humor on the masses yet again. And you’re chance to see it is coming up very soon!

We’ll be opening for James Wells of area sweethearts, the clever, strutting, blustery rock duo, The Gay Blades. James has crafted a yet-unseen solo side piece and he’s going open up his overcoat to let the exhibitionist in him take over he performs at The Brighton Bar this Sunday.

Talk About Swagger! James Wells Of The Gay Blades

The Obvious loves The Gay Blades, who have busted out of the region after lots of hard work with appearances all over the US and overseas in the UK as well. I am really truly excited to be playing with James who has been making quite the name for The Gay Blades along with his excellent drummer Quinn English ever since their breakout single “O-Shot” a few years back. I can’t wait to see what this wicked little S.O.B. has up his sleeves for us all on Sunday.

Come check us out for the good time rollicking rock and roll time of your life this weekend! It’s only $6 ADV/ $8 DOOR and Spontaneo will be opening. And yes, I bought new underwear for the occasion, since the inadvertent panty flash has become an inevitable facet to our live show.

Hey I’m just doing like Dave Grohl said! Peddling the ass God gave me and all. But fellas (and select ladies, too), I will disclose this—The whole joke is, I don’t actually put out. But don’t worry! The Obvious will bring you to climax. It’s what we do best.
😉

XOXO
Ang
