Brian Olive: The TVD First Date and Vinyl Giveaway!

“My first vinyl memory involves Sgt. Peppers when I was 4. I remember being alone in the house wearing the kind of enormous white headphones that everyone’s dad owned and placing the needle on my favorite Beatles album.

I would listen and stare at the cover until I was absorbed into the photo. Each time, inevitably, my eyes would be drawn to the slouching doll wearing the Rolling Stones sweater. This terrified me in the same way a roller coaster or Vincent Price’s voice would some children.

I tried to look at the rest of the scene but I was fixed on that thing! By the time I got to “Fixing A Hole” my hands were trembling so much that the picture became blurry. “She’s Leaving Home” calmed me down a bit but, that was a fleeting sense of security because I knew what was coming next, “Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!” That was the one that always got me!

When the psychedelic nightmare carnival band struck up I was out the door before the headphones and cover hit the ground! I’d let my pulse slow, run around with the neighborhood kids, go to bed and do it all again the next day.”
