Can you believe it’s the second weekend of December? We’ve been pretty fortunate with the weather here in Cleveland, as well as with a plethora of great live music opportunities that can treat our ears.
This week’s featured show was a three-way tie. I know, unheard of. But we can’t pick between them.
The first show occurs tonight and Saturday at Severance Hall and features Bela Fleck on banjo with the Cleveland Orchestra. Fleck, who has been in town performing with the Cleveland Orchestra since Thursday, will feature a banjo concerto written by the musician himself, Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine, and Gershwin’s An American in Paris.
The second show we think you really ought to consider is Relient K and Attack Cat at the Auricle in Canton. Clevelanders Attack Cat are energetic, magnetizing and just plain fun to see live. Attack Cat’s drummer/vocalist, Dave Douglas, used to be a member of Relient K, so this show is kind of special because it’ll be interesting for Douglas to be playing a bill with the band again, but in another group. And Relient K feels good in your ears, too.
If you’re not making the drive to Canton, or you would rather stick with the more traditional side of things for the weekend, head on out to the Beachland Tavern on Sunday for Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys. The band provides the bluegrass sound you’re dying for while utilizing the truth-spillin’ lyrics of frontwoman, Lindsay Lou Rilko.
