Since the ’90s, the Icelandic troupe Sigur Ros has been laying together minimal soundscapes caressed by bowed guitar and falsetto vocal swoops while being pushed forward by the occasional patient crescendo.
In short, Sigur Ros make beautiful music that would likely enhance even the happiest of occurrences. This year brought about their seventh album, Kveikur, with the lead single “Brennisteinn.” The single has a more blatant lean on a heavier rock aesthetic than the band’s work in the past but still retains their emphasis on a spacious mix.
The post-rock outfit are on tour and will be stopping by the Jacob’s Pavilion at Nautica on Sunday, September 15. We happen to have a pair of tickets and their newest record to give away.
How can you win tickets for such a rad show, plus Kveikur on vinyl? It’s simple! In the comments below, tell us your favorite atmospheric rock band (sans Sigur Ros).
My answer is Mogwai because Rock Action is a masterpiece. You should go back and check it out if you’re unfamiliar.
The winner will be chosen at noon on Thursday, September 12. Tickets are still available.
