Returning for the fourth year, Chicago’s free concert series, Downtown Sound, will be bringing local indie-folk quintet Judson Claiborne to the Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park this Monday, 6/18.
Led by vocalist/guitarist, Chris Salveter, something that Judson Claiborne could never be accused of is shallow songwriting. With themes like “the transformation of the human psyche by way of life’s companions and mysterious pathways,” there is absolutely no shortage of depth to the material.
Formed in 2007, and gearing up for their third record, Judson Claiborne has crafted a sound with its roots in country and folk music, but a lyrical voice all of its own.
In April, the group raised $3,000 through Kickstarter to fund their forthcoming record, We Have Not Doors! You Need Not Keys! With a projected Spring 2013 release date, a special EP will be available throughout the tour with samples of what to expect from the group’s third release.
Their previous record, Time And Temperature was released in 2010 via La Société Expéditionnaire. The colored vinyl was pressed in an edition of 250, and you can pick up a copy online for just $16.
Mondays free show, part of Millennium Park’s Downtown Sound concert series, starts at 6:30 PM at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion (201 E. Randolph St). Judson Claiborne will be opening for Minnesota experimental indie-rock group, Cloud Cult.
