The blues rock scene is quickly and steadily gaining momentum amidst the pop rock and punk music of today, and honestly I couldn’t be happier about it. Some bands today forget to pay tribute to the bands that started it all but Ben Ripani Music Co. certainly is not one of them.
With lyrics comparable to the country stars of old, and rock licks as beautiful as tunes from the late ’70s, this is a band you certainly don’t want to miss.
I was fortunate enough to attend the Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival a few months ago, and while I was really hoping to just enjoy some great music, discovering Ben Ripani Music Co. was an excellent bonus. Fused with blues and rock sounds, Ben Ripani brings a musical sound that has to be heard to believe and luckily that chance is available to you this upcoming weekend at Reggie’s Rock Club.
Ben Ripani has had some solo releases but it is with his very talented Music Co. that has lead to successful rocking of the Chicagoland area for more than a year now.
Their 7-song EP, Maladies, is a beautiful mixture of soulful guitar picking and righteous lyrics. Tracks like “The Lord I Trust” make you just want to cruise down a country road with the windows down and the sound system blaring. Then you can speed it up with the above rocking/bluesy “Howl at the Moon.”
This five piece rock, blues, indie, fold, Americana band is pure music excellence and their live performances make you jump, shout, and just dance around. They can rock stages as large as the Blues and Bluegrass festival or ones as jam packed as The Alley. Each show promises to leave the audience wanting more and they always deliver.
If you’re not sold on my words alone and need to see Ben Ripani and the Music Co. for yourselves then you are in luck. They will be hitting up Reggie’s Rock Club this Friday, 5/25. The show is 18+ and kicks off at 7:30pm with openers Pockefulofscoundrel, Mad Bread, Swift Technique, and Divebar. You can see all that for just $10.
