Experimental pop trio Sonoi steps back on the Chicago music scene with the release of their second album Tropics of Holland, which is now available for purchase on vinyl worldwide via Meno Mosso Records.
The album went on sale Tuesday, March 13th, and is the band’s first release since their self-titled album in 2010.
Sounds from Tropics of Holland make it hard to categorize Sonoi. Built upon the finger-picking style and minimalist aura of the self-titled album, Tropics of Holland combines smooth, flat electronic landscapes with rocky guitar rhythms and well-worn folk echoes. The album retains a variety of styles between songs—especially in the transition from the intro “Etude A” to “Cotton.”
Sonoi veteran front-man Adam Busch remains in the lineup for this album, along with bassist Ryan Hembrey and drummer Pierce Doerr.
The band will be celebrating the release of Tropics of Holland this Thursday, March 15th, at The Hideout Chicago alongside bands Deep Sleep and Chandeliers.
