With winter behind us and Record Store Day on the horizon, there is going to be no shortage of exciting new releases in the upcoming weeks and months. One release that I’m particularly excited about is the first full length record from Chicago’s Outer Minds.
The self-titled release follows up some pretty amazing singles on HoZac, Goodbye Boozy and Push My Buttons, and marks the groups first release with Oakland’s Southpaw Records.
Outer Minds will be at the Empty Bottle this Saturday, celebrating the release with a slew of other killer bands. Grab all of the details for the free show below.
I’m personally a huge sucker for modern groups that channel the 1960’s into their music, and few do it better than Outer Minds. The Chicago quintet combines ’60s inspired pop and psych and runs it through their garage/fuzz sensibilities.
Frequently likened to the Yardbirds and the Mamas and the Papas, Outer Minds new s/t record delivers 10 tracks of consistently catchy hooks and vocal harmonies. You can pick up the new album from Southpaw Records for just $12.
The 21+ show kicks off at 10:00 PM at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. Outer Minds will be supported by Mannequin Men, Radar Eyes, Summer Girlfriends, and DJs Todd HoZac & Sriracha.
The show is free with an RSVP, so all you have to do is shoot an email to rsvp@emptybottle.com by midnight Friday with “Outer Minds” in the subject line, and your name in the body. If you want the comfort of guaranteed entry, you can always pick up tickets online for just $8.
