I just received the what’s-up from my buddy Miguel Hinojosa (who is the director of marketing and special events for Friends of Sound/Backspin Records) about an awesome soul dance party being held this Sat., Feb. 26 at the Art Authority called The New Day.
The special guest for the evening is none other than famed NYC producer/DJ/record collector David Griffiths of Daptone Records. Here are the full deets from Miguel:

WHO: Friends of Sound Records’ own DJs coolhands & BSears
WHAT: The New Day is a new soul night at The Art Authority (next to Spider House) in the heart of Austin, Texas. Each month, these two DJs will join forces and prime the dance floor with killer soul recordings from the late sixties through the mid-eighties, guaranteed to provide a sublime dance party for all ages. Each month will feature a guest DJ flown in from around the country. Coolhands and BSears are proud to present this month’s guest: David Griffiths (Bumpshop NYC/Kay-Dee/Daptone).
New York State’s own DJ and record producer David Griffiths is best known for co-hosting the long running BUMPSHOP monthly soul and funk night at APT in New York City’s meat packing disctrict. Griffiths served as A&R for Kenny Dope and Keb Darge’s Kay-Dee Records imprint for a number of years and additionally has overseen reissue projects for Daptone Records (i.e. Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings), as well as for Stones Throw Records’ Now-Again & Soul Cal subsidiaries.
