Keith Morris is a modern day Rip Van Winkle. The former Black Flag/Circle Jerks front-man’s new band OFF! channel the angst from the early 80s as perfectly as his former bands did. But to give Morris all the credit would be a great injustice to the other talented musicians in the band. He teams up with Mario Rubalcaba (Earthless/Hot Snakes/Rocket From The Crypt), Dmitri Coats (Burning Brides), and Steven McDonald (Redd Kross). What’s even better for those of you who pine for the return of true old school punk rock, without the Reaganomics and disco that fostered the movement, is Off!’s coming to SXSW!
But, get there early! If you blink, you might miss their showcase. Their new 4 x 7” EP set (which was also released on CD 2/18/11) clocks in at a total of just over 17 minutes long. Did I mention there are 16 songs? Catch them at the Vice Music showcase Thursday March 17th at Club Deville at 10:00pm. Also on the bill are Davila 666, The Black Lips (another recommends), Dom, and a yet to be announced special guest.
