Rosebud to rebloom record store, hangout: After almost a year, the Rosebud Fountain & Grill is ready to blossom. “There is something really sexy about stuff that’s been thrown away or forgotten,” said Anthony Pedone, who in recent weeks has spent countless hours refurbishing the inside of the downtown landmark at 102 S. Main St. with business partner Sean “Red” Caraway. On Friday, Pedone and Caraway plan to reopen the downtown restaurant but with a slight twist this time around: more than 1,500 vinyl records.

An inside look at Gotta Groove Records: As record sales continue to rise, Record Pressing Plants are expanding across the country to handle the unexpected consumer demand for music in the vinyl format. One such plant is A-T’s own Ohioan neighbor, Gotta Groove Records in Cleveland, which has the distinction of being the world’s first completely vertically integrated vinyl manufacturing and distribution operation. We caught up with the owner of Gotta Groove Records, Vince Slusarz, and its Vice-President of Sales and Marketing, Matt Earley, to discuss the intricate process of how vinyl is made and why the format has endured for so many years.

Independent Label Market debuts in Paris with Ed Banger, Because Music, PIAS France: Since 2011, Independent Label Market has been bringing together some of the world’s best record labels for a day of market-style record trading. In October the market will launch Paris for the first time and typically there’s going to be quite the entourage. Seventy-five independent record labels from around the world have already been confirmed for this inaugural Parisian edition. Labels include homegrown imprints including Because Music, Ed Banger, Kill The DJ Records, Pias France and Wagram Music; German neighbours !K7; plus Drag City and Secretly Canadian from across the pond. A host of UK labels – including Bella Union, Heavenly, Hospital and Warp – make the trip across the channel.

This Week’s Must-Haves: A Wireless Turntable Made for Social Sharing: Vinyl records are, by definition, a low-tech medium. But that doesn’t mean they can’t benefit from a few 21st century bells and whistles, according to the folks at record subscription service Vnyl. The company recently released its first record player, dubbed Trntbl (sense a trend here?), that wirelessly streams high-quality uncompressed audio to Bluetooth speakers, AirPlay-enabled devices or Sonos systems.

Sun Ra vinyl salvos ready for blast off: Serious space cases can expect an intergalactic invasion of fresh vinyl from the former Herman Poole Blount, as news hits like a Halley’s comet about an approaching cache of Sun Ra booty. Clipping at the heels of a trio of titanic coloured 10-inch EPs from the great galactico – Rocket Number Nine, Lady With The Golden Stockings and Nuclear War – Modern Harmonic are now readying themselves to release The Space Age Is Here To Stay, the first ever collection of Sun Ra’s vocal tracks, which will be made available on CD and coloured vinyl double-album this fall.

“Stranger Things” Soundtrack Vinyl Release Announced, It’s out October 28 via Lakeshore/Invada: Netflix’s original series “Stranger Things” was scored by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein (of the Austin band S U R V I V E). The first season’s soundtrack was released digitally in two volumes in August, with the first volume’s CD release arriving October 14. Now, a vinyl release has been announced for the soundtrack’s first volume. It’s available on October 28 in the U.S. via Lakeshore Records and in the UK via Geoff Barrow’s label Invada. It will be available in other territories on November 11.
