Industry Insider: Jacob Moesgaard of AM explains the revival of vinyl: Vinyl is at an all-time high right now and it’s pretty incredible to watch the revival happen in tandem with the digital age. The recent boom represents a myriad of different things- music sales, contrary to popular belief, did not quite die, art itself is still seems very much alive, and people are still interested in carrying physical copies of albums. With that in mind, we knew we had a lot to discuss with the team at AM, a unique company that focuses on accessories to take care of records. They are the original vinyl cleaning company after all, so they know a thing or two about the record industry. We sat down with their CEO, Jacob Moesgaard, to talk about the future of music, vinyl’s past, and more.
Toronto Public Library adds 100 new vinyl records to their collection: The Toronto Public Library is a much-loved service provided to Toronto, with hundreds of books, ebooks, comic books, DVDs, CDs, and online films available to borrow for free, not to mention free services like computer and printer access, Wi-Fi hotspots, vinyl record players, and listening stations. Now, the TPL has undergone the task of updating their vinyl collection at the Toronto Reference Library. The TPL recently posted to Reddit that 100 new titles have been ordered and are officially starting to be added to the shelves.
Bovey man opens “World’s Smallest Record Store”: Tim Edwards could fill an encyclopedia with all his music knowledge. “You need a little jazz? Dizzy Gillespie,” Edwards said as he flipped through his collection. It would be hard to argue with Edwards’ music expertise: He says he owns 40,000 records. “My wife says I’m hoarding them, but I like to think I’m an archivist,” he said. The archivist opened KEBS Records off Bovey’s main street in April. It’s just ten feet by eight. “We get over about four [customers] and then it’s like we move outside and watch ’em shop,” Edwards said. Edwards says he thinks his record store is the smallest in the world. While it hasn’t been certified, Edwards says he’s done enough searching to be convinced.
Vinyl revolution comes to Bolton as Premier Music Fairs visits Bolton’s Market Place Shopping Centre: Vinyl lovers will be getting into the groove this weekend when a popular record fair spins into town. Dealers laden with thousands of LPs, 45s, EPs and rare CDs will set up stall in Market Place Shopping Centre from 9am tomorrow. Hundreds of fans are expected to flock to the event, which is run by Glossop-based Premier Music Fairs. Veteran record sellers and newcomers will trade, swap and buy records, while there will also be a free expert valuation service.
The Smiths reissue two single versions of ‘The Queen Is Dead’ on vinyl: The Smiths have released two vinyl reissues of seminal track The Queen Is Dead to mark the 31st anniversary of the album of the same name. The single is available as a picture disk in both 7 inch and 12inch format, with each offering a different tracklist. If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on the 12 inch, you’ll also hear the 2017 masters of Smiths tracks including Oscillate Wildly, Money Changes Everything and The Draize Train.
