Ben Redjeb chooses songs because he likes them — like the classics from Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou from Benin. “They were fans of like James Brown, Johnny Hallyday from France, Nana Mouskouri,” Ben Redjeb said. “They would take that stuff, then try to do something that is similar — very often the bass was based on the way traditional Benin music is played, and then they did the funk on it.” Since its inception, Analog Africa has re-released 24 vinyl records. The label also makes the songs available for download on its website.

This weekend, the Hollywood store will give away 20,000 records and cassettes essentially for free. Any customer who spends $20 or more will be allowed to take up to 100 records on the house. Customers are encouraged to bring a box or crate with them when shopping. (We’d suggest some friends too, don’t throw your back out!) “It’s gonna be wild so get here early – when they’re gone they’re gone,” the shop advises.
Vinyl Tap announce own stage at Long Division Festival: A record store is to cast Huddersfield bands into the music festival limelight. Vinyl Tap on John William Street will take three of their favourite acts to Wakefield’s Long Division Festival on June 11 to play on their new sponsored stage. Punk blues act Knuckle, experimental folk band Samh and hardcore outfit Jaded Eyes will all perform at the a venue called The Orangery on Back Lane as part of Vinyl Tap’s bid to give them more exposure.
