Silver Spring, MD | Saying goodbye to downtown Silver Spring’s Record Exchange: For this fan, the store offered much more than music. …As a single 20-something in a new city where I didn’t know anyone, I felt at home going to the record store. Though I was still trying to find my place in the county, the slightly musky copies of the Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel and Elton John albums felt familiar, and I loved being surrounded by strangers who were as nerdy about music as I was. Hunt and her co-owner, Brian France, would always make the time to chat about whatever album I bought, and would offer recommendations. When I bought my dad a Jason Isbell album for his birthday in hopes of turning him on to the Americana rocker’s music that I loved, Hunt helped me pick out a good vinyl cleaning kit to go with it. My dad recalled how much he’d spun that record before we went to the Jason Isbell concert in Philadelphia this year.

Kansas City, MO | New Kansas City bar is made for ‘hi-fi nerds,’ and fans of good wine and/or music: For 65 years, the building at 709. W. 17th St. was the domain of Lawrence Brooks. The squat structure, somewhere around 1,000 square feet, had once been a carriage house. Mr. Brooks, as he is affectionately known in his West Side neighborhood, opened a mechanic shop there in 1957. In 2021, entering the 10th decade of his life, Mr. Brooks sold his shop. He still lives around the corner, over on Jefferson Street, but the old tires and oil-stained carpet have all been dispatched to the dumpster. The building has been gutted and concrete breeze blocks installed on its street-facing exterior. Beyond those blocks lies XO, a new hi-fi listening bar and restaurant that was set to open Friday. “The emphasis is on natural wine, cocktails, Japanese-inspired small plates, and listening to records in an environment where there’s a real focus on music and sound,” said Mitchell Foster…
‘Saltburn’ soundtrack set for vinyl release full of cloudy bathwater: The limited edition release is inspired by a notorious bathtub scene from the film. The Saltburn soundtrack is getting a vinyl release that is filled with ‘bath water’, in reference to a notorious scene in the film. Saltburn starred Barry Keoghan as Oliver Quick, a middle-class interloper who poses as a scholarship student from a working-class background in order to strike up a friendship with Jacob Elordi’s wealthy aristocrat Felix Catton at Oxford University. Oliver is eventually invited by Felix to spend the summer at his family home, called Saltburn – a large mansion in the British countryside. The two characters strike up a complicated relationship, and one memorable scene finds Oliver, having overseen Jacob pleasuring himself in the bath, lapping the remaining drops of bathwater in the tub before it swirls down the plughole. And now, Bad World are releasing the film’s soundtrack on limited edition translucent vinyl which has been filled with what is being billed as ‘bath water’, in tribute to the scene.
The Lion King Soundtrack To Release On Zoetrope Vinyl: The release is a celebration of the film’s 30th anniversary. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic film, Disney is releasing The Lion King’s soundtrack for the first time on zoetrope vinyl. Thanks to the moving images on the vinyl, fans will experience beloved songs including “Circle of Life,” “I Just Can’t Wait to be King,” “Hakuna Matata,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and more in a new, nostalgic way. The vinyl is set for release on July 26th, and is available for pre-order now. The zoetrope vinyl technology is a modern adaptation of one of the earliest forms of animation, creating the illusion of movement. The idea is that when a sequence of images move in a circular motion, the vinyl will display a fluid, progressive animation. For example, Disney has already released a Frozen zoetrope vinyl that displays moments from the film, including Elsa’s iconic “Let It Go” transformation, as the record spins.
