Record Store Day 2018 all about vinyl, Jack White and keeping indie-shops spinning: As if the craziness surrounding Record Store Day wasn’t enough, vinyl aficionado Jack White will be in Grand Rapids performing during the celebration of independent record stores on Saturday, with a “Rolling Record Store” in tow. In addition to White’s 20 Monroe Live sold-out tour stop on Saturday night, the Detroit native’s Third Man Records will set up shop outside the Grand Rapids Art Museum during the day Saturday, selling merch and exclusive vinyl. The mobile “Rolling Record Store” will be open again near 20 Monroe during and after White’s show. But Third Man’s presence in Grand Rapids Saturday is just the tip of the needle when it comes to Record Store Day.
Adelaide: Record Store Day will see the city spinning out over vinyl: For lovers of vinyl, Saturday is bigger than Christmas. Music collectors will be lining up across Adelaide to get their hands on rare re-issues and special releases being dropped as part of the global Record Store Day. The event, which began in 2008 to support independent music retailers, has been embraced by record labels and grows bigger every year as more people return to vinyl. For Matt Horvath, owner of Clarity Records on Pulteney St, Record Store Day will run for 24 hours from midnight Friday. If history repeats, Mr Horvath expects a line down the street as he prepares to open. “There’s so much coming out,” Mr Horvath said.
Local record shops to celebrate Record Store Day UK: IT’S that time of year again when music lovers flock to support their local independent record store, in a celebration of their unique culture. Over 200 independent record shops across the UK come together, with the chance to sell the special vinyl releases which are made exclusive for the day. Many shops go one step further and host a programme of events for the day, with artists putting on live performances, or DJs taking to the decks. One such store is Fives Records in Leigh’s Broadway, which has handed over the events organisation to the Middle Age Spread DJ crew, something which has now become tradition.
This Saturday is WMG’s Record Store Day Record Store Crawl: Audiophiles, record enthusiasts, and music lovers are invited to join Warner Music Group’s third annual series of official Record Store Crawls, happening over the next few months in various cities in the U.S. and – for the very first time – Europe. The first of this year’s Crawls will take place in both New York City and Berlin on Record Store Day, April 21st, while the remainder of the Crawls will take place from May through October. This year, Record Store Crawl will release exclusive vinyl to coincide with the Crawls. Attendees will be among the first to have access to the limited-edition releases, which will hit shelves at indie retailers across the U.S. during each Crawl. Sarasota Music Archive is celebrating vinyl on Record Store Day with a sale: The Sarasota Music Archive is celebrating vinyl on Record Store Day by releasing hundreds of vintage vinyl records from its collection for sale on Record Store Day, which is Saturday, in the Selby Library Geldbart Auditorium from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. The archive gets thousands of vinyl records donated every year, and once a year management has to clean house by releasing any duplicate vinyl or popular records they can’t or don’t archive. Many of these could be rare and valuable, but the library already has them in its collection, so they let them go. Records are from all genres including classical, popular, spoken word, folk, and more.

Exile on Main Street in Downtown Champaign, Record Swap in Midtown Champaign, See You CD + Vinyl in Downtown Urbana, and Skeletal Lightning for online needs, if you’re looking to go that route. You have plenty of options…Exile on Main Street successfully completed their bid to save their record store day by raising over $8,000 via their GoFundMe campaign. Thus, RSD Is happening, complete with live music on two stages, and more. Although they have alluded to it in their Facebook event, there might(?) be food trucks at this one. Corvallis, OR: A Chance For Rare Vinyl—Record Store Day 2018: Record Store Day 2018 is upon us: Saturday, April 21. New Zealand: World Record Store Day highlights the diversity of music-lovers and the romance of the record: After 33 years, Slow Boat Records’ Jeremy Taylor is still mystified by how the sounds of vinyl work. “They sort of feel a bit magical. For however long I’ve been doing this – too long to even remember – I still don’t actually quite understand what happens when you put a needle on the record and it scrapes away in this plastic groove and this glorious sound that captures incredible detail emerges,” he said. It’s the sort of mysticism and respect you’d expect from a record-store owner, and one the public can celebrate this weekend as the world honours the 11th annual International Record Store Day. April 21 sees record stores all over the world celebrating independent record shops and everything vinyl. In Wellington, Slow Boat Records opens its doors from 9am with limited vinyl releases and instore performances from Wellington trio Mermaidens, Auckland-based folk-pop group Tiny Ruins and folk singer Tom Cunliffe.
Get your spin on at Jesse Carl Vinyl in downtown Lakeland, Florida: LAKELAND — Jessi Ellerbe, 26, dropped a new Jack White album onto a turntable and put the needle on the record. “I can’t take silence,” said Ellerbe, the owner of Jesse Carl Vinyl in downtown Lakeland. The store is named after her late grandfather, Jesse Carl Ellerbe, who died in 2002. “He loved music — that’s one of the things he instilled in me at an early age,” Ellerbe said. She will be celebrating International Record Store Day Saturday,, beginning when the shop opens at 8 a.m. She will have new-release vinyl records specially pressed for the occasion, along with special re-releases from Sound Garden, David Bowie, Prince and Def Leppard, among many other artists. “It’s a huge deal,” Ellerbe said, adding that she is expecting a shipment of $6,000 worth of records for the occasion. “It’s a fun day and a very good day for me financially.”
Canada: This Windsor record store owner says the vinyl business is expanding: This Saturday, vinyl lovers everywhere will be taking part in Record Store Day. The annual event started in 2007 to “celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store.” In Windsor, one store has deep roots to the music industry, including the British rock boom of the late 60s and 70s. Paul Russell, owner of Dead Parrott Records, once worked for Tower Records in London, England — pursing his lifelong passion of music. An avid collector of vinyl records, he spoke with CBC’s Arms Bumanlag about the music that brought him to Windsor, and the fact that everything old is new again with the popularity of records.
Boston: Record Store Day at Run for Cover: Every year on Record Store Day, local music shops roll out crates of 33s, 45s, and 78s for vinyl heads to pore over. This Saturday, an actual record label is getting in on the fun, with Run for Cover, an ascendant independent label based in Boston, transforming its office into a record store. There will be live music all day from local artists, food and drinks from Whole Heart Provisions and High Brew Coffee, and raffles with prizes like passes to Boston Calling. Rochester, N.Y: Top Roc spots for Record Store Day: Record Store Day is Saturday and it offers music lovers and vinyl enthusiasts a chance to rejoice in the resurgence of records. At one point, it seemed that vinyl records wouldn’t survive in a musical world with streaming services, digital downloads, radio and CD options, but they have not only survived, but thrived. Vinyl LP sales accounted for 14 percent of all physical album sales in 2017, with approximately 14.32 million units sold — up 9 percent from 2016 — according to Billboard. Although the neighborhood mom-and-pop shop might be the perfect spot for trading, perusing or shopping for new tunes on Record Store Day, there are two Rochester landmarks that serve as the ideal places to celebrate: The House of Guitars and The Record Archive.
Akron, Ohio: Record Store Day: It’s that time of year again. Saturday is Record Store Day, exciting news for bona fide music geeks, collectors and, of course, hoarding re-sellers. There are many area stores participating in various ways including the usual suspects such as Square Records in Highland Square, Time Traveler near downtown Akron, Hollow Bone Records in Fairlawn, The Exchange chain of stores and Buzzbin Art & Music Shop in Canton, among others. The full list of RSD exclusive and rarities from labels and artists both big and small lists hundreds of singles, previously unreleased live albums, reissues of long gone promos and a bunch of stuff that will ideally get folks into their local indie record store. For local music lovers, there’s an added draw. Akron Recording Co., a proudly analog studio (it has some digital stuff, too) and nascent record label, which is located in Goodyear Heights, has put together a compilation of local artists called Where The Hell is Akron, Ohio? Vol. 1.
New Zealand: This weekend we want to go to…Your favourite record store: Vinyl junkies will need to be out the door bright and early on Saturday morning if they hope to snaffle up a rare treasure. That’s because it’s Record Store Day, the annual celebration of the enduring (and best) musical format, that comes with a deluge of extremely limited, highly desirable vinyl releases. No matter what style you dig — from the cutting edge to the classics — there’s bound to be more than a few you’ll find desirable out of the 300 special RSD releases. All good record stores are participating and most are making a party out of it with bands playing, refreshments served and sales on second-hand stock. Our advice: leave the frenzied collectors to it in the morning and head down after lunch to take in the vibes and have a dig through the bins.
Connecticut: Record Store Day to bring out crowds Saturday: Record Store Day, the annual celebration of independent record stores, takes place on Saturday and local business owners are gearing up for the crowds of die-hard vinyl fans. While many stores augment Record Store Day with live bands and special guest appearances, the highlight of the day are the limited-edition vinyl releases by record companies. The releases are available exclusively at independent record stores. Organizers of Record Store Day estimate that there are about 1,400 independent record stores in the U.S. “The excitement is through the roof with the releases this year,” Brian Gerosa Sr., of Gerosa Records in Brookfield, said. “It’s like Christmas for vinyl enthusiasts.”
Vancouver: Record Store Day celebrates vinyl culture: Record Store Day mushroomed into a global event, with thousands of stores participating not only in the U.S., but also countries including Italy, Japan, Spain, the U.K., Mexico, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Australia, and, of course, Canada. In a telling statement on what a phenomenon the day has become, this year will see over 400 limited-edition releases hit record-store shelves around the globe from artists as varied as Car Seat Headrest, Courtney Barnett, Fleetwood Mac, Insane Clown Posse, Led Zeppelin, the Wipers, and Wu-Tang Clan. As always, Vancouver will offer no shortage of destinations for those who love the smell of vinyl. Here’s what you can look forward to around town this Saturday.
Washington, DC: Shopping, Record Store Day: Saturday is Record Store Day, a national movement to support local and independent record stores. Special Record Store Day releases include limited 7”s, boxed sets, and colored vinyl. Supplies and availability vary by store, so prepare to pop by several different participating stores to find what you’re after. Stores in DC proper include Smash!, Som, Joint Custody, Red Onion, and Hill & Dale.
Record Store Day celebrated at King of Prussia and Plymouth Meeting malls: For the owner of The Rock Shop stores at King of Prussia Mall and Plymouth Meeting Mall, celebrating Record Store Day, coming up on April 21, and formally honoring the musical format invented in the late 1800s is “literally like rolling the last two weeks before Christmas into one day. It is such a huge build-up with getting and tagging all the titles, setting up the store, getting the word out, but then the store opens and it all becomes totally worth it when that line of people comes pouring in. South Wales: Newport to host festival to celebrate record store day this Saturday: MUSIC will fill the streets as the annual Record Store Day takes place on Saturday. More than 200 independent record shops across the UK come together to celebrate all things vinyl with a range of free events taking place. In Newport, record store Diverse Vinyl, located on Charles Street, will be once again celebrating with a free festival that is being organised in conjunction with the city’s Business Improvement District. Newport Now, the business-led body which supports and promotes the city centre, has funded the free live music and spoken word festival across six venues on Saturday night…“Newport is fortunate to have our own independent record store in Diverse Vinyl in the very heart of the city, and we’re pleased to be working with them to deliver this event.”
Record Store Day in Oxford, UK 2018: Crate diggers are getting ready to ransack record stores across Oxfordshire. Record Store Day, which features limited edition releases by pop legends including David Bowie and Madonna, takes place on Saturday. Truck Store in Cowley Road, Rapture in Witney, Music Box in Wallingford and High Fidelity Cafe in Botley Road are preparing for vinyl’s biggest day of the year. Charlie Burnett-Cooke, 19, who works at Truck, said: “It will be incredibly busy – we open at 8am and will be serving coffee to the queues from about 6am.” Richard Strange at Music Box said: “It’s a massive day – people are asking for David Sylvian’s Dead Bees On A Cake on white vinyl.”
Indianapolis CD & Vinyl, Luna Music, Square Cat Vinyl, others to celebrate Record Store Day: A number of Indianapolis-area music stores will be opening early Saturday to celebrate Record Store Day, offering early-bird giveaways and selling limited-edition merchandise while supplies last. Some will also celebrate with live performances that continue into the evening. Record Store Day, now in its 11th year, is an international event designed to celebrate and promote independent record shops. On that day, many participating retailers will be selling limited-edition Record Store Day releases—mostly vinyl records—that are only available while supplies last.
New London, CT: Telegraph celebrates 11th Record Store Day on Saturday: We moved into our New London home two weeks before Christmas 1999. On Christmas night, the basement flooded. Among the damage? A rather substantial album collection — records my wife and I had respectively brought to the marriage — was destroyed. And so I have mixed feelings about Record Store Day. I love the idea and the bargains and the indie spirit and the fact that artists embrace the idea of contributing special releases just for the event! But we don’t even have a turntable anymore. Why would we? Still, the 11th annual Record Store Day, happening Saturday, is going to be pretty great at Telegraph Records in New London. In addition to all the bonus releases, in-store discounts and sundry freebies, there will be the usual day-into-night array of live music performances.
The “vinyl revival” has hit Columbus. Following the digitization of the music industry near the turn of the century, record stores began closing their doors as customers left analog behind and entered the world of CDs and MP3s. But some record stores decided to ride the wave and wait out the digital age. Many record stores that remained open survived the decrease in sales and soared into what many call the “vinyl revival” — the increased interest and sales in vinyl records. Four campus stores — Lost Weekend Records, Used Kids Records, Records Per Minute and Magnolia Thunderpussy — all survived the digital age and plan to celebrate by participating in the 11th Annual Record Store Day on Saturday.

Record Store Day Shanghai: Lots going on on the gig front this weekend, but before we dive into that, it’s worth flagging up that this Saturday is Record Store Day. Shanghai’s vinyl merchants are putting aside their petty scraps over who has the best Billy Joel collection for a few hours to unite in the Uptown basement for what is said to be ‘the largest Record Store Day market in China’. Co-hosted by Uptown and Daily Vinyl, the market will feature a presence from four other physical shops from around Shanghai, plus one from Wuhan, and more than 20 vendors in total. Lots of vinyl fun to be had down on Pingwu Lu basically.
Geelong music lovers prepare to celebrate 11th international Record Store Day: Vinyl may have once been a vintage collector’s item from a past era, but it’s made a comeback over the past five years, with more and more stores beginning to restock everything from old classics to new releases. Confessed music lover Stacey Moore, owner of Ocean Grove store BookGrove, is incredibly excited to be participating in this year’s event. “I am a person who has a record collection at home and when I opened nine years ago I wanted to incorporate records, but at the time they weren’t being produced,” she said. “Then they were going gangbusters in the cities and I decided to start stocking them down here at BookGrove about a year ago.”…“You don’t get the same sound quality with Spotify or iTunes as you do on a vinyl,” Ms Moore said.
7 things to do in Wilmington this weekend: Record Store Day: The first Record Store Day was held in 2008 as a way to celebrate the independent businesses that are the lifeblood of any town’s music scene. Special releases and other merchandise are provided to the stores for a day that has become one of the industry’s biggest in terms of sales and store traffic. Participating stores in Wilmington are Gravity Records on Castle Street, hosting an appearance by the Part-Time Audiophile Roadshow, which will play store and customer vinyl on a state-of-the-art high-fidelity stereo system; Modern Legend on South Front, which is having food, beer and 50 percent off non-RSD releases; Reggie’s Records and Hair on 42nd Street, Squidco on North Fourth; and Yellow Dog Discs on South College Road, which is touting hundreds of exclusive titles and a local music showcase. In Shallotte, Azio Media is a longtime Record Store Day participant.
Lubbock’s Ralph’s Records issues new vinyl on Record Store Day: Ralph’s Records at 3322 82nd St., according to owner Doug Stapp, again will celebrate the annual event Record Store Day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.“Record Store Day is all about vinyl, so that is the big draw. … There will be hundreds of RSD-only vinyl releases available, which we get from our distributor, and then we also will offer in-store events planned with (radio stations) KFMX, Awesome-98 and KTXT’s Vinylthon, Stapp said. He added that Record Store Day was inaugurated in the United States in 2007 and is held on a Saturday in April. “A number of records are pressed specifically for Record Store Day, with a unique list of releases for each participating shop,” he said.
St. Louis: Record Store Day brings exclusive music and more to fans on Saturday: Music fans’ love affair with vinyl records continues, even though the old-school format is far from being the most popular way of listening to music. I’ll be honest: While I have a vinyl collection totaling about a thousand pieces, not to mention a room in my home decorated with album covers, I can’t remember the last time I purchased or played vinyl. I threw out my record player years ago and moved on to downloading and streaming. I continue to collect CDs of releases I like most. But I’ll always have a deep appreciation for vinyl, the first way I bought music in the ’70s, and continue to support Record Store Day. Buffalo, NY: ‘Queen City’ soundtrack on vinyl among Record Store Day releases here: Filmmaker, director, musician and actor Peter McGennis crafted 2013’s “Queen City” as a love letter to Buffalo’s musical and architectural history, and he brought some of the finest American roots musicians the world has known – Sharon Jones, Allen Toussaint, James Cotton and others – to town in service of the film’s attendant soundtrack. McGennis is releasing a limited-edition vinyl copy of that soundtrack Saturday, as part of Record Store Day 2018. The album will be available at Revolver Records, 1451 Hertel Ave. The only other area retailer listed as an official Record Store Day participant on the RSD site is Black Dots, 223 Lafayette Ave. Having only two participants here is a sad acknowledgement of the loss of music retailers like Record Theatre and Spiral Scratch over the last year.

It is a day to celebrate small music stores but also to celebrate records — music on vinyl. From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, the Man Cave will have a $1,200 VPI record cleaning machine on hand to allow customers to bring in their one favorite or rarest record for a professional cleaning. “It takes 6 minutes to do a two-sided record, so that means only 10 records an hour can be cleaned,” Ellis said. “The company bringing the VPI cleaning machine is also bringing a $10,000 Technics turntable they just released.” Ellis, the former promoter of the famed City Gardens in Trenton, said he doesn’t know any other record store in the entire country offering a free VPI deep record cleaning.
