Here are the best events in Miami for Record Store Day 2018: Whether you own a record player or not, Record Store Day is an occasion to look forward to. The international music holiday—happening this Saturday, April 21—is a chance for independent record stores around the world to showcase limited edition releases, host live music and in-store signings and throw some pretty awesome shindigs. In Miami, Record Store Day has become a pretty big deal with no shortage of options to keep you bouncing around town. Below we’ve compiled some of what you can look forward to this Saturday.

Record Store Day Seattle: The ultimate guide to RSD 2018 deals and events: They’ll come in droves, a stack of limited-run color vinyl tucked under each arm, eyes bleary from an early morning spent flipping through racks of rarefied records. Now in its 11th year, Record Store Day has become the music nerd’s Black Friday — an enticingly fun consumer-oriented pseudo holiday that lures collectors to stores across the country (even in a post-streaming world) with a cache of new one-off and limited releases. When Record Store Day commences on Saturday, April 21, this year should be no different, with many of Seattle’s best record stores opening early, planning deals and in-store performances from local luminaries (and even an ex-Fugee) in addition to stocking those new RSD-sanctioned records. To make your crate-digging easier, we rounded up all the local RSD happenings we could find.

Your San Antonio Record Store Day field guide: Record Store Day is around the corner, and in its 11th year, it’s popularity is ever-increasing. Vinyl album sales in the United States increased by more than 1,000 percent over the past ten years. And junkies line up at stores’ openings to get their hands on rare and special releases from artists spanning all genres. It’s not unusual to be greeted by fellow eager fans, shop owners, music performances, free food and drinks and more. “This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities…”

Record Store Day in Tampa Bay is April 21st! This Saturday, April 21st is International Record Store Day! And no, it isn’t just one of those every day made up hashtag holidays. Record Store Day was founded in 2007 by independent musicians and record store owners as a way to get people in the doors so that maybe while you’re there, you’ll even buy a record of… The Doors?? Record Store Day “is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities.” For some of us (like me), Record Store Day is like Second Christmas.

Your Curated Guide to Record Store Day 2018 in Chicago! This is the 11th Record Store Day and anything that’s run this long is sure to have experienced its ups and downs. The criticisms of the day are valid: costly vinyl that doesn’t necessarily need to be repressed, flippers wangling up all the in demand stuff to resell at even more exorbitant prices. But you don’t have to succumb to the negativity. RSD is meant to celebrate the music community, the sounds they create, and the wax it’s eventually pressed on. While you’re lined up waiting to pick out your vinyl treasures, strike up a conversation with the people around you and start developing that sense of community that RSD strives to achieve!

Fair Play Vinyl Fair: Record Store Day Special. Situated in the heart of the Northern Quarter, Fair Play is quietly building a reputation among record collectors and music aficionados as one of Manchester’s coolest record fairs. MANCHESTER – Held in the underground setting of the Behind Closed Doors basement, Fair Play packs a room full of vinyl available to purchase, with rotating sellers each month, so each event is different. As well as their regular monthly evening fairs, which take place on the first Thursday of the month, the Fair Play collective are also putting on a Record Store Day Special on Saturday 21st April. “Everyone involved in the events are vinyl enthusiasts and this year we want to celebrate record store day the proper way!” says organiser Frankie. “We are doing an all-day record fair starting at 1pm through till 8pm with DJs providing the soundtrack well into the night.

On the day itself, they will have several acts – including The Hot Sprockets, The Fontaines DC and Today FM’s Claire Beck – DJing in-store at their Dawson Street branch throughout the day. Rick Jones’ new underground electronica act Dark Fidelity Hifi is to perform the first live set to be staged in the popular Reel Around the Fountain Records shop, in Record Store Day, Saturday. It is a dream come true for Reel Around the Fountain Records store owner Nigel Young, as he has long held an ambition to have live music acts perform on stage in his store…Now in its 11th year, Record Store Day is the one day when more than 200 independent record shops from across the UK come together to celebrate their unique culture, a major part of which is the continuing revival of vinyl record sales. Numero Group Criticizes Record Store Day: “An Unwieldy Grip-and-Bitch Fest.” “The only people who are really happy are the major record companies.” The Numero Group has shared an essay about Record Store Day. The post begins, “Over the past decade we’ve had an on-again, off-again relationship with Record Store Day. What started off as a clever way to support independent shops during a physical and sonic recession has blown up into an unwieldy grip-and-bitch fest.” The label goes on, “The only people who are really happy are the major record companies who continue to prop the whole charade up with overpriced singles and needless pic discs. The stores make their nut and keep the lights on for another year.” The Numero Group also states, “RSD is a marketing event designed to generate traffic by pushing manufactured rarities that scrape off the chaff from deluxe edition CD bonus material and flaunt their first-time-on-wax status while remaining no less unessential, not a day to celebrate the best this backwards industry has to offer. And that’s something we just can’t hang with.”
