Owensboro, KY | Displaced Pages; new book & record store opening in Owensboro: I say a “new” book store is opening in Owensboro, but Virginia Hardesty has been slinging good reads for about a year now. With a former booth at a local vendor mall and pop ups all over town, she even created the first Adult Book Fair at Brew Bridge that was a HUGE hit. In between meetings of her Silent Book Club, Virginia has been searching for the perfect place to home a permanent location for Displaced Pages. “Its kinda been a long time coming…for as long as I can remember, my mother and I used to talk about opening our own store,” she told me. “It seemed unattainable, and one of those “meh. Maybe one day” type of things. But after opening at the vendor mall, doing pop-ups and book fairs, and meeting so many in the book community, it became apparent to me that I could make this happen. And why wait? I’m just gonna go for it.”

Waite Park, MN | The Key to Vintage opens in Waite Park: Explore retro finds and collectibles. A new vintage store has come to Waite Park, often greeting customers with a record playing in the background or a movie on the old box TV. The store has a VHS player set up as well. The Key to Vintage opened in its own storefront in late January after previously operating out of Elizabeth’s Storage Bin Boutique in St. Cloud. The new location has helped expand The Key to Vintage’s inventory, owner Nathan Merritt said. …”We’re a tight knit group, so if I got something that fits their niche more than mine, I’ll try to send business their way, if they hear that someone’s got something that’s not really their niche, they’ll send them my way. So it’s just nice to have that community of different businesses in the area,” he said.

Stratford, ON | Record sale like ‘treasure hunting’ for vinyl lovers of all generations: It’s a vinyl lover’s dream. A record sale at the Army, Navy, Air Force Veterans Hall in Stratford on March 30 will feature more than 10,000 records. Jim Fewer, a vendor and vinyl collector, said everyone loves to dig through collections to see what they can find, including younger collectors. “It’s like treasure hunting because you just never know what you are going to find.” Fewer said his best advice is to ask vendors if they have what you are looking for, as the vast collections could take a long time to look through. There is sure to be something for everyone. “So albums, 45’s, CDs, come cassettes as well. Any kind of music media is going to be there.” Most items are typically priced from $5 to $15. But Fewer adds there is some higher end stuff that is rare, unique and may cost a little bit more.

Vertere’s gorgeous DG X turntable features significant updates for a more refined performance overall: Did our favourite premium turntable just get even better? We are big fans of Vertere Acoustics’ Dynamic Groove turntable. This is the high-end brand’s entry-level model, with both the DG-1 and DG-1 S incarnations boasting five-star reviews and consecutive What Hi-Fi? Award wins thanks to their clever engineering and hugely entertaining, rhythmically driven and expressive sound. The Dynamic Groove is a mainstay of our best turntables guide if you’re after a superb premium record player that does things just a little differently from more conventional designs. There is now a new evolution of this turntable, called the Vertere DG X. The deck may look very similar to the previous model at first glance, but the DG X has been completely redesigned from the ground up. The aim is to improve performance and also make the manufacturing process quicker, which keeps the price competitive.

Alvvays Address “Mess” Over Vinyl Company’s Limited-Edition Reissues: Alvvays fans have been waiting a long time for their limited edition vinyl, but it sounds like the wait will be over soon. In an email to fans reprinted on Reddit, the band explains that a company called Bandbox that was contracted to press exclusive releases of Blue Rev and Antisocialites went out of business without fulfilling the orders. Bandbox has since been acquired by another company called Vinylbox, and attempts by Alvvays’ label Polyvinyl to get Vinylbox to fulfill the orders have been unsuccessful. According to the band’s account, the company collected money from customers, did not pass it on to the band or their label, and did not get people the records they paid for. To resolve the situation, Alvvays say they’re getting the records pressed through other means and will send them out to customers who fill out a form and can produce their Bandbox receipt.
