We spoke to a few of the island’s vinyl enthusiasts and asked each of them to choose a favourite record. …“Collecting vinyl is my passion,” says Miet from Belgium, the owner of Bistro Arbol in Puerto del Carmen. “It started years ago, but when my uncle Willy donated his collection I knew I had to do something with it. When I started the Bistro 5 years ago, we decided to play only vinyl, and it’s been lots of fun. We’ve had some great conversations with many of our customers about certain records. They like to tell about when they’ve bought the record, why they love it so much, what they were doing when they first heard a particular song. It really is unbelievable!”

Tower Records Japan is separate from the original U.S. company and is now owned by the telecommunications giant, NTT Docomo. But Tower Records Japan still follows the business principles set out by the company’s late founder Russ Solomon. In an interview with Marketplace, the head of public relations for Tower Records Japan, Tatsuro Yagawa, said via translator that the company is following Solomon’s business direction “very faithfully,” while keeping up with the latest trends.
Duluth, MN | The DECC joins the vinyl craze with its new ‘Vinyl Happy Hour’ Every Tuesday 4:30pm-6:30pm through the end of November the DECC with be hosting their Vinyl Happy Hour. Held in the newly re-furnished Symphony Hall Mezzanine, all the music played comes from Executive Director Dan Hartman’s record collection. Hartman is excited to showcase all the vinyl he’s collected through the years. He says, “I thought it would be a fun way for people to enjoy the space. Selfishly I have a vinyl collection myself, several other folks in Duluth do too. So I thought it would be fun to bring the vinyl community together a little bit.” Vinyl has continued to increase in popularity over the years according to the Recording to the Industry Association of America sales rose by 22% in the first half of 2022. Northland record stores are seeing the the popularity as well.

You hear the memorable static sound of the needle running through the groove, and the music begins to play. Listening to vinyl records is a great way to experience music. While fans can listen to an entire album digitally, most people just add their favorite songs to a playlist. Artists who release their music on vinyl are able to choose the order that they want their listeners to hear the songs. They can creatively arrange their music to flow together with seamless transitions, like Pink Floyd’s The Wall or Tommy by The Who. Albums not only contain the physical record, but the cover and sleeve as well.
