Over the course of two years and in between my busy schedule in music and the arts, I’ve developed a chronic need for acquiring records from record stores that I have visited around the world.
Jersey City’s Iris Records commemorates 20th anniversary with gala bash at Cathedral Hall: Digital technology has changed our lives in dozens of ways, but a few simple truths remain: People still enjoy the old-fashioned pleasures of going to the movies, reading a book, and shopping at a record store. Nowhere is that more evident than at Jersey City’s Iris Records, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this weekend with a gala event at the new Cathedral Hall on Montgomery Street. The anniversary bash will take place on Saturday, October 15.
A look into Shinjuku’s HMV Record Shop: If you’re a music enthusiast who still swears by vinyl and enjoys digging through piles of secondhand records, then this Shinjuku shop will feel like a small slice of heaven. Following the 2014 opening of a Shibuya location, the record-focused arm of the now Lawson-owned HMV empire expanded to the iconic Alta building in October 2016. HMV Record Shop Shinjuku stocks around 70,000 vinyl titles plus another 20,000 in CD form, and there’s even a small section dedicated to cassette tapes.
Decorating with Cece Fourchy Quinn: Vinyl Record Players: I’ve long been a fan of Anna Cottrell’s style, following her back in her Tulip Louise blogger days. So you can imagine my sheer delight when I saw that her fabulous home was featured in At Home’s most recent issue. I love how designer Pam Nolen really made Anna’s space feel personal, from hanging cocktail dresses along the walls to the giant mood board. Another personal touch that caught my eye? Her record player in the dining area. There’s something really special about vinyl records that today’s fancy mp3’s can’t quite capture…Enjoy!

Vinyl collectors sure to find nirvana at Musical Collectables show in Mississauga: Audiophiles and vinyl junkies will be in their element this Sunday (Oct. 16) when the Toronto/Mississauga Musical Collectables record and CD sale returns to the Capitol Banquet Centre. There will be more than 60 vendors selling a wide range of collectables sure to appeal to the devoted collector including vinyl albums, CDs, books, concert posters and record players (both new and vintage), among other items. The vinyl records are the big draw and there will be a slew of them representing all manner of genres and styles including rock, jazz, classical and more.
