Sacramento, CA | Record Spinners: The History and Closure of Dimple Records: John Radakovitz stands in front of a makeshift assembly line in the back warehouse of Dimple Records in Roseville in July. One by one, he picks up a record, places it gently in a sleeve, affixes an orange price sticker to the front and sets it aside. Music has been at the core of John’s entire adult life. He’s made a career of trading tonal poetry captured on vinyl, then magnetic tape, then polycarbonate plastic disks — and somehow, in this era where millions of people lease music encoded as zeroes and ones, the company he cofounded more than four decades ago is still going strong. People still walk into his seven stores scattered throughout the Sacramento area, and they’re buying music, movies, video games and books, both new and used. But John knows many people are walking into his stores for what could be their last time…

Forbes: Review: Como Audio Releases Its First Turntable: Given the decidedly retro look of Como Audio’s wireless speakers and music systems — with warm wood finishes, control knobs instead of touch controls and support for FM radio — it should come as no surprise that the company has now released its own turntable. Rather than re-inventing the wheel (or platter, I suppose), Como Audio partnered with Pro-Ject, a world leader in audiophile turntable design. The result is a beauty of a turntable with premium quality components, a sleek and modern design, the ability to stream vinyl tracks wirelessly, and a setup experience that’s as close as it gets to plug-and-play. At $399, the Como Audio Turntable is an affordable step up from entry level turntables, with performance and looks that won’t disappoint.

Record Store Day’s slate of exclusive Black Friday titles has been announced, to the tune of 177 new releases — almost all of them on vinyl only, although a few CDs, cassettes or books figure into the mix. As usual for the post-Thanksgiving LP-fest, the lineup consists of about half the number of releases that come out for the bigger RSD event in April, but few fans of any musical genre could scour the list and not find at least a few titles that’ll make any trips to Macy’s or Wal-Mart seem like an afterthought Nov. 29. The full list is available here. Tantalizing obscurities abound, of course — and will be previewed in depth by Variety in the run-up to the event — but here are 10 of the releases with the widest appeal…
