Bellingham, WA | The vinyl revival: retro sound is here to stay: As digital music expands, vinyl’s nostalgic charm captivates new listeners and collectors alike. The needle drops and a subtle crackle emanates from the speakers, picking up speed and sound as a symphony comes to life. An earthy smell permeates the room and sunlight bounces off shelves upon shelves stocked with music. This is a record store, where the sensory delight of vinyl is as much a part of the allure as the albums themselves. Corey Wolden is a long-time Bellingham collector with 1,200 vinyl records in his collection. He likened the experience of owning unique copies of his favorite albums to owning a copy of a well-loved book with markings in the margins and dog-eared pages. “There are memories attached and especially with those records that I’ve owned for a long time and listened to a good amount, the experience is usually a combination of nostalgia and biographical reflection,” Wolden said.

Phoenix, AZ | Dear Post Malone, RSD Ambassador: please fix these 5 things about vinyl collecting: A short letter to Post Malone about how to make vinyl records fun, accessible and inclusive. Before he embarks on that “Big Ass” tour of his later this summer, Post Malone was recently named ambassador for Record Store Day 2025. Now, in terms of a representative for this venerated celebration of all things music, the rapper-turned-country-crooner is a great choice, and someone who will bring further recognition to vinyl releases. (Past ambassadors have included Taylor Swift and Fred Armisen.) However, and this could be the face tats or his whole “I could get hammered with him” vibes, we think Posty could do more than put a mostly charming face to RSD. In fact, we’ve put together a list of reasonable requests for Mr. RSD 2025. Nothing too major: just a few things that could make the whole hobby more inclusive, less expensive and generally less bothersome.

Los Angeles, CA | A Joint Effort: Record fair supports LA fire victims: Dublab and In Sheep’s Clothing, two organizations committed to promoting independent artists and musicians, share the Sound & Vision shop/events space in Row DTLA. They will donate 100% of the proceeds to those impacted by the fires. Dublab, a nonprofit radio station, has hosted record fairs in the past, including a monthly event at Smorgasburg. Tate Chavez, the events manager at Dublab, stated that this is the first time the organization has conducted a record sale as a fundraiser. “It’s in reaction to the pain of seeing so many folks suffering at the moment and thinking, ‘OK, we got to find some way to channel our resources, our community, our network, into raising funds for these folks to meet their immediate needs,’” Chavez said.

Charleston, SC | Vinyl enthusiasts spin their favorite records each month at a North Charleston Library: While silence is typically encouraged at the library, one evening a month proves to be an exception. Over a couple of hours, an eclectic mix of music reverberates from the community room at the Keith Summey North Charleston Library as music enthusiasts take turns spinning records on the turntable. From jazz and lo-fi beats to hip-hop and classic rock, any genre of music is welcome at For the Record Vinyl Club, said Ramon Maclin, the adult services librarian at the library. “I just want people to feel comfortable being in here playing their music,” he said. Maclin has been growing his collection of 600 records since 2010. He started the club just over a year ago to bring music aficionados and vinyl record collectors together.
