IT’S SPRING, as evidenced by the fact that we’ve all had our fill of this year’s crop of Cherry Blossom tourists, and Tax Day is creeping up on us. Whether you’re ecstatic about all the ducats that you’re getting back from the government or weeping over your 1040, we figured that either way, you’d be ready to go out and get silly.
So this month we have so many tickets to give away that we actually need to have two 9:30 Club Previews. We’ll be knocking out the first batch today and then posting the rest of The List tomorrow. Watch out for a few ticket giveaways today and tomorrow, too… Hint.
The Dirty Heads, Mon 4/11
Last year, Rolling Stone called The Dirty Heads one of the “Best New Bands of 2010.” Their breezy SoCal reggae-rock comes to 9:30 Club next week. Fans of the band should maybe want to check back on the site in a lil while… Hint.
Their song “Lay Me Down” featuring Rome from Sublime with Rome makes you want to start summer a couple of months early.
The Go! Team, Wed 4/13
Even their name sounds like a psychedelic high school cheerleading squad on Adderall. The Go! Team released their latest album Rolling Blackouts in January. They release their newest track, “Apollo Throwdown” on Record Store Day, or April 16th to you uninitiated. There will be a limited edition run of only 500 12″ singles of remixed versions of “Apollo Throwdown” and “Voice Yr Choice.” If you like The Go! Team, mayhaps you wanna stop by here again tomorrow… Hint.
The Downtown Fiction, Sat 4/23. Early Show! 5:00 PM Doors
Local boys from Fairfax The Downtown Fiction return home with a stop in DC on their tour. Their debut album Let’s Be Animals is released April 26th and can be pre-ordered now through Photo Finish Records. Start your Saturday night off right with some happy pop-rock at this early show.
Femi Kuti and the Positive Force, Sat 4/23. Late Show! 10:00 PM Doors
Yep, you could win tickets to two different 9:30 Club shows in one day! Femi Kuti has been hailed as “the standard bearer for Nigeria’s funky, feisty Afrobeat sound.” The son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and his band The Positive Force will be playing the club with a late show after all The Downtown Fiction’s cute fans clear out.
Stay tuned! We have a whole buncha shows left to preview this month, and tomorrow we’ll finish letting you know which ones should be on your radar. Last hint: Your last week in April is going to be very, very busy.
