We get sent a lot of press releases (as you can imagine) and a lot of them follow a traditional format—artist name, release date, sounds like… etc. However, every now and then we get sent something that cuts through the usual marketing pleasantries and reads like a manifesto. Outblinker certainly caught our attention with theirs, and that was before we’d heard a note of their music.
Here’s an excerpt from the intro: “Electronic music doesn’t have to be cynical, corporate, sync-obsessed junk-food and post-rock doesn’t have to be meandering, delay-ridden, formulaic box-ticking. Outblinker is a band not a brand. Something had to be done about the waves of soulless, corporate electro-shit masquerading as art, clogging up our creative veins.”
True to their word, Outblinker have created something that lives up to the lofty bar set by their own press release, and the video that accompanies EP track “Pink” just adds to the air of rebellion surrounding them. There are no band members pictured, just found footage spliced together over six minutes of intense, electronica spliced with filthy, distorted guitar and drums that’ll put hair on your ears. Check them out. Now.
EP “Pink/Blue” by Outblinker is out on June 15th 2015 via Good Grief Records. Keep up to date with Outblinker on Facebook.
