TVD Vinyl Giveaway: Debbie Neigher + Tidelands, “Atoms” 7″

If you’ve ever spent any time in a recording studio or shared rehearsal space, you’re aware these locations literally breed collaborations. It’s in their DNA. A chord is struck, a drum is thwacked, and a split 7″ in born. (Well OK, pressed.)

Which happens to be the origin story for Debbie Neigher + Tidelands’ “Atom” split 7″. The single’s not available until Tuesday, but we have an opportunity for you to get your spindle around one today.

For the initial “Redgummy Records Presents” release, the San Franciscan neighbors find themselves covering the other’s material. “For my song “Atoms,” it made perfect sense to have the female perspective be voiced by Debbie,” says Tidelands’ Gabriel Leis. “For her song “Smile,” I took some production ideas from the St. Vincent record I’d been listening to at the time.”

“With just the one rehearsal under their belts…the tracks [were recorded] in one afternoon, helped greatly by the multi-instrumental dexterity of Leis’ Tidelands bandmate, Mie Araki, and bassist in Neigher’s band, Jessie Cafiero.

The tracks were produced by Ian Pellicci and artwork was completed byDiana Sudyka, who has previously created album art and posters for Andrew Bird and Crowded House among others.

“I’m hoping this is just the first in a series of “Redgummy Records Presents” collaborations,” says Leis. “I’ve already got my eyes and ears on some unsuspecting great local songwriters that I’d like to work with next.”

Enter to win a copy of Debbie Neigher + Tidelands’ split 7″ “Atom” by telling us in the comments below your choice for a dream collaboration to result in your fantasy split 7″ single. (Methinks a Beatles/Rutles collab would be gear, hm?)

We’ll choose one winner with a North American mailing address for the 7″ a week from today, 5/10!
