I’ve always said “songs are like friends,” and sometimes I wish my friends could be as reliable as some of my favorite songs.
This week I set out to make a playlist of songs about people. In my mind, I was riffing on the famous ’60s comedy, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice.
I was visualizing a group of songs sitting at the dinner table having a festive time. The playlist came to me like a dream. John, I guess that would be me—I was there. There were women, Anna-Lisa, Carol-Lynn, Marianne, with double names. Others like Mayla, Ruby, Rita, Jeannie, and Angeline. Strange dudes Willie, Bob, and Bill were drinking wine and smoking cigarettes.
These people—or should I say, the songs in this dream playlist—seem much happier than my friends in real life as of late. I’m kinda of feeling grumpy and sorry for myself today, so time to shut up and listen to my Idelic friends
Check me next week from NYC. Those hometown city streets are bound to cheer me up.
